Quail Mountain Dispatch: Great Weekend Ahead In The Mountains

A slight chance of rain over the high terrain on Friday but otherwise perfect weather weekend upcoming for Twin Lakes and the surrounding area. The weather has been on the cold side for the last week but we will finally get a little ridging over the weekend. This supports seasonable temperatures and low rain chances.

Rain Chances are based on NWS rain chances.

Expect Some Light Breezes And Partly Cloudy Skies

Weather will finally moderate from the cold and wet conditions by the weekend. Expect temperatures to be in the low 60s up in Leadville to pushing 80 in Salida. Rain chances will remain low as slight ridging aloft takes hold to end the week. A weak disturbance will come overhead Friday and bring the isolated rain chances with it. The rest of the weekend should be nearly rain free.

Campers: Lows Near Or Just Above Freezing Expected

Sure it is June, but it sure doesn’t feel like it in the high terrain. Those of you in tents, expect low temperatures to dip into the 30s in most locations. Salida, Aspen, and Vail the exceptions with 40s expected over the weekend. The wind should be light overnight, at the very least. Not expecting precipitation overnight either, though I cannot rule out an isolated shower or two. So prepare accordingly.

tl;dr version

Should be a lovely weekend in the mountains, with temperatures in the mid 60s in Leadville and pushing 80 in Salida. There will be isolated rain chances on Friday and perhaps Sunday as well. Temperatures, as usual in the mountains, will drop into the 40s and 30s overnight. For those out and about, remember to be smart about fire safety. In addition, the weather might be cool but the sun will still burn you. Keep that sunscreen around if you’re staying outside this weekend.

Enjoy folks, hope to see y’all enjoying some of the best of Colorado this weekend.

Snow covers the mountains over Twin Lakes on 5/30/22.
